Powerflex Skateboards wanted you to know they were tougher than an elephant

Powerflex skateboards pulled out the old ‘tougher than an elephant’ gag in one of their earliest ads to show just how flexible and strong their decks were. It was probably not the greatest idea to name your company after a performance trait in a fickle industry, as flexible skateboards would remain viable for a couple of years, but stiffness would eventually be the norm. Still, you have to love an advertisement with an elephant standing on a skateboard, if not just because it’s much harder to coordinate than simply parking a plain old car on one.
