Find what you like, and let it kill you.

“Find what you like, and let it kill you.” — Kinky Friedman

The above grimly comical paean to romanticized self-destruction is all too frequently attributed to poet, novelist, and imbiber, Charles Bukowski, replacing like with love. There is no actual proof of Bukowski ever saying or even writing these words, but there is however ample proof of humorist, singer, and songwriter, Kinky Friedman saying it. Friedman is a little proud of himself that he got past the self-destruct phase of booze and drugs without going any of the usual mystical routes, going on to say “I did it on my own, without AA or Jesus; but, then, I think we all have to find the Jesus of our choosing. I’ve always said: Find what you like, and let it kill you.” No idea what Kinky found, but glad that he did!
