“The Button on The Beach was on the Corner of A1A and Las Olas, across from the Elbow Room. It was started by “Crazy Greg” Newell and owned by the Cleveland Caribbean Company and Dick Watson from Ohio. The Button on the Beach was, by far, the most popular place for Spring Breakers but also was frequented by locals and catered to the local music scene. The city of Fort Lauderdale realized that by getting rid of The Button would help diminish Spring Break’s popularity in Fort Lauderdale. Its location, on the First floor of the Holiday Inn, was beach side. The Holiday Inn was knocked down around 1990 and is now a city parking lot. I can attest all the above statements are accurate. I worked the Button as a DJ and entertainer from 1973-1986.” – John Terry H/T >
