The ubiquitous VW Bug is a surprisingly capable off-roader right off the lot. Somewhere between its overall lightweight construction and rear engine sitting just behind the drive wheels, the magic happens, allowing the Bug to traverse beaches and canyons that would leave other vehicles stranded. Of course, some basic upgrades can further improve things, allowing drivers to push their Type I’s to take on even harsher terrain.
