Love them or hate them, Duran Duran had some of the best music videos to ever grace MTV. The songs “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Rio” featured cinematic music videos directed by Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy and became two of their biggest hits. During the early ’80s, music video singles on VHS became a thing. You know, because if you were a Duran Duran super fan, you just had to be able to watch “Girls on Film” over and over again. The band did an in-store appearance to promote the release of the ‘Video 45’ of “Hungry Like the Wolf”/”Girls on Film” at the Video Shack in Times Square on March 19, 1983. The Cash Box report of the appearance revealed bedlam when the band was spotted: “Kids began crawling up the iron gates covering the store windows and were being pressed by the crowd. It was really scary.” It was estimated that 5,000 fans showed up for the appearance.
