The Myth of the American Farmer

Myths teach lessons. They demonstrate cultural values and can promote certain behaviors or discourage what is considered inappropriate or unhealthy by the community. These stories tell tales of bravery or perseverance in the face of monsters or diabolical foes. We often learn these narratives as children and internalize their values without much analysis. The story of the American farmer is so deeply embedded in my head, I don’t know when I first embraced it.
