Honda J35A4 Powered ’73 Super Beetle Endurance Racer

This ’73 Super Beetle was built for endurance racing in the 24 Hours of Lemons event. Lemons sees more than its share of kooky entries taking to the track, some of which are fast as fuck, and others that are just hilarious looking and hoping to go the distance. This Super Beetle is in the former category as it’s packing a JDM Honda J35A4 out of a 2004 Odyssey. The 24-Valve SOHC VTEC 3.5 L V6 is stock, but sitting up top is an Eaton M122 supercharger off an SVT COBRA with a Cadillac STS-V pulley snout. They apparently started with a Subaru 5-speed, but that setup couldn’t take the heat, and was replaced with a built Vanagon transaxle that was up to the task at hand. All told, the setup made 353hp and 310tq to the wheels on six pounds of boost, and was apparently as wild ride that really pushed the ’70 Bug around the track.
